UNESCO added the Maratha Military Landscapes to its World Heritage list, recognising historic forts, battlefields and logistical routes that shaped 17th–19th century regional history. The inscription is expected to boost conservation funding and heritage tourism, while prompting state and central agencies to frame preservation plans that balance tourism, local livelihoods and ecological protection.
